For the time being, yes. I haven't actually figured out what I'd do with a GUI,
since I don't have much in the way of GUI-based applications on the machine.

Usually a couple at one time are open. Many I use on a more or less daily
basis.

I'm not; the production desktop machine remains under Windows NT.

I may eventually use the FreeBSD system for production, once I'm satisfied with
the configuration and backup plans, but the Windows machine will remain in any
case.

Yup. Most of us are.

Because you need it for work.

Then you agree with me.

Why? I'm always open to new things. But note that I _added_ a machine to run
FreeBSD. I did not replace the Windows machine. I couldn't replace it even if
I wanted to.

The average user has a life outside computers, and so he probably doesn't care
whether he is educated or not. A computer to him is just an appliance, like a
washing machine.

It isn't going to change. In fact, the trend will be in the opposite direction:
more and more end users knowing less and less.

On this list, perhaps. Not in the world at large. In fact, for a great many
people, computer = Windows.

Okay, so what do you suggest? Something with clean and simple graphics.

What type of education does she have, and what is her line of work?

Well, something was there when I typed startx, before installing KDE. It was
pretty primitive.

I agree.
