You do realize that ppp -ddial _IS_ supposed to dial as soon as it's invoked, right? -ddial means that ppp will keep the modem connected all the time, when connection is dropped, it is immediately re-dialed whether it's needed or not. If you only want to have the modem dial when there is a need for it, you should be using ppp -auto. Which the subject of your message implies you were doing. -Chris > -----Original Message----- > From: Raoul Simpson [SMTP:raoul@sirius.com] > Sent: Friday, September 03, 1999 10:47 AM > To: flec@flec.co.uk > Cc: questions@freebsd.org > Subject: Re: ppp -auto? > > Hi, > Thanks for your response! > > Recapping my problem (it's been a few days since I first wrote), ppp > -ddial > dials immediately when invoked, even if no machines are making any tcp/ip > requests. > > > Have you got any machines running any IP services at all, eg, doing DN > >Sreuqests, perhaps ICQ on one of the client machines?
