FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #0 r264340: Fri Apr 11 13:49:08 CEST 2014 amd64
>Description:
Since the update to port print/cups CUPS 1.7.1 recently, printing via HPLIP drivers for OfficeJet Pro 8600, which worked great for months now with CUPS 1.5.X (the prior version), gets mad and rogue.

The problem is that whenever print/cups-filters is installed, the printing system gets mad: it does either print nothing, the job is stuck forever in the queue, or, trying to print a testpage, it produces bunches of paper or simply a sheet with "?%" at the very end of a double sided page.

Here are the steps I tried to woraround apart from the regular port updating/maintaining:

Deinstalling cups and all ports cups-\* via

"pkg delete -f cups cups-\* hplip foomatic-\* qpdf"

Remove /usr/local/etc/cups to ensure a plain, new cups printing system.

Installing print/cups which reels in some print/cups-ports like:

cups-1.7.1
cups-base-1.7.1
cups-client-1.7.1
cups-image-1.7.1
cups-filters-1.0.52
qpdf
cups-pstoraster-8.15.4_7

Installing print/hplip which also reels in print/foomatic-filters.

After that, I setup a test printqueue from scratch, the printer (which has new and latest firmware as of 2013) is connected via socket://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9100.

Every printing now is a mess and non-working. The printer is producing useless sheets and start cleaning head very often. That is the same situation as with a regular update while maintaining the installation.

Deleting print/cups-filters solved the problem in way: I can print from xpdf, xdvi, so printing is working for a subset of clients. What is not working in neither case:

Printing from LibreOffice, from within Firefox or Claws-Mail, which worked before for months with CUPS 1.5.X.

The situation is very serious and this update renders several FBSD 11.0-CURRENT boxes useless regarding printing.

I also tried to recompile ghostscript and all dependend ports necessary for print/cups - but with no effect.

>How-To-Repeat:
Install/update print/cups to 1.7.1 and also update print/hplip. Try printing to a OfficeJet 8600 multi puprose inkjet or similar printer, try printing the testpage.
