Running faxq as root didn't work either, but I have been messing with the permissions in /var/spool/fax and, after this, complaints from faxq finished. Now, though, faxes just sit there and never get out of the queue. Right now I have nothing there and faxstat returns: Server on localhost:FIFO for all modems: Running.
