Hmm, except that the manpages are gzip'd so you need:

	gunzip -c /path/to/manpage | nroff -man

But if you redirect that into a file, then view the file, it's still full of

	N^HNA^HAM^HME^HE
     c^Hch^Hhm^Hmo^Hod^Hd - change file modes

Best to use:

	man <manpage> | col -b [> filename]
