Sure, if you take on the responsibility of continuing to do the work in
the future and process make(1) PRs. Looking at the /usr/src commit logs
for he past 4 months, it doesn't look like you particularly spend much
time committing. So I'm sorry, your position doesn't hold as much weight
with me as others.

Maintainership isn't just a medal. It is a covenant with the project to
maintain and give care & feeding to something. A responsibility comes
with it. If the maintainer wants to be consulted or part of, any changes
to the maintained area; I don't see what is wrong with that.

Perhaps you should take some time to understand why Will put a MAINTAINER
on make(1). It seems a whole lot of people want anarchy where they can
have a little fun, make a drive-by commit, and go off to the next thing
of pleasure. I maintain that people that take on strong maintainership
of a FreeBSD component give more care and feeding then the drive-by's,
and deal with some of the lesser fun things in that area.
