Hmm, well that's promising. This is with: atapci1@pci0:7:0: class=3D0x010485 card=3D0x5348108e chip=3D0x005410d= e rev=3D0xf3 hdr=3D0x00 vendor =3D 'NVIDIA Corporation' device =3D 'nForce4 Serial ATA Controller' class =3D mass storage subclass =3D RAID I don't know if it makes any difference, but the board has on-board NVIDIA RAID, which I'm considerably less than impressed with. I'll build one of them without the on-board RAID support and see if hot-insert works. I don't have the logs (long story, but basically the RAID bios hosed my data) but I think it failed to notice the inserted disk, and was timing out while trying to select the channel when forced with an atacontrol reinit.
