I would suggest that the port download the incremental patch tarballs provided by vim for 0-100, 101-200 ... 401-500, then download the individual patches after 501. This will dramatically decrease the 'make fetch' and 'make extract' time. Not to mention that it will reduce the size of the port's distinfo file.
