It's not only a question of monopolies here.  The monopoly Telco
``Deutsche Telekom'' even gave up its own switch protocol (1-TR6) in
favor of the European one (E-DSS1).  One of the few attempts of
standardization that seem to work.  Even new telco's wouldn't have
much chances without offering E-DSS1 now.
