For your info, in my environment,

*default compress
produces error like that:

% cvsup current-supfile 
Connected to cvsup3.jp.FreeBSD.org
Detailer failed: Network read failure: Input/output error: zlib error 4294967291
Will retry at 08:52:43

however, just ommitting this line made me happy.
