You can setup an MTA like Postfix to respond to an alternate port in  
addition to port 25. So, for me, I send mail on port 2525 to my SMTP  
server which requires authentication over SSL.

If this sort of setup is not feasible for you, would a .forward file  
in your home directory do what you want?
