This went to ports back on the 16th, no replies.  Any knowledge out 
there?

Where can I find information about the history of the ports tree?  Some 
of the questions I'd like to answer are: 

Did the ports tree originate with FreeBSD?  If not, from where?  Who did 
the initial work?
