  Subject: DEVFS and syslogd

I get the error "syslogd: cannot create /dev/log: operation not supported"

While on the subject, XF86_S3 3.1.2D isn't working with devfs and a
busmouse. Booting without devfs resolves the problem. The symptoms
include rapidly degrading keyboard response, terminating in a total
lockup. The system will not ping at this point, nor will X die or
switch vtys, within 30-40 seconds of startx. Something about
/dev/random? Or perhaps /dev/mse0?
