G'day -

Anybody running squid? It runs pretty well for me on (*cringe*)
Linux, but I've had rotten luck with it so far on this platform.
I've tried the port, and also rolled my own (which I prefer). It
compiles and runs fine, but is awfully unreliable. Frequently loses
its ability to resolve hostnames, for some reason, even when I can
resolve them just fine at the command line.

I'm currently running the latest version, compiled with internal DNS
(no "dns_server" processes). This is a dialup network, and I use my
ISP's nameservers all around (in resolv.conf and squid.conf). Tried
running my own caching BIND, but that made it even worse, probably
because I know even less about BIND than I do about the intricacies of
squid. =)

Not a big deal, I'm just experimenting, and wondering about the
experiences of others.
