I just thought about another thing IFS would be very useful for:  
Helping to develop UFS journaling. Since the filesystem itself is  
very simple, and directories are not present, it should be pretty  
easy to journal, as the number of places that update the metadata is  
pretty low. This should be extremely useful when testing out the  
journal operations, once they have been implemented.
