If you're building egcs/gcc on a ELF system, you must specify
"i386-unknown-freebsdelf" for configure, not "i386-unknown-freebsd".

Reading specs from /opt/egcs/lib/gcc-lib/i386-unknown-freebsdelf/egcs-2.91.57/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.57 19980901 (egcs-1.1 release)
