Just done a full upgrade to 5_STABLE, and yes I'm afraid it's still there :-(
At bootup, dmesg reports:

uhub_explore: usb_new_device failed, error=IOERROR
uhub1: device problem (IOERROR), disabling port 1

Full bootup dmesg output attached below.
