OK, in fact it's not the linker, it's the compiler.  And it's the
compiler you've just built.  There's a file called 'specs' which
contains this information--you should find it as
/usr/ports/lang/gcc28/work/gcc-2.8.1/specs.  You'll need to manually
change it to read crt1.o.  And don't forget a bug report to the ports
team.  They're just in the process of fixing up the ports for the
2.2.8 release, so this is a good time.
