I have the same problem, with the same php, with both apache 1.3 and 2.0, on
Freebsd5.0, and it only happend when you use imap with php.
When lauching php with gdb, I have this : 

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x282a3e26 in hash_lookup () from /usr/local/lib/libc-client4.so.8

libc-client4.so belong to cclient.
