Yes, they do run DNS for the zone, though they promise me they don't have
a wildcard entry for the domain, and since this does not appear from any
other machines that query against them, I'm tempted to believe them.

I'll push them for that then, the reason I asked here instead of on a BIND
list is because this does not happen from any of my other computers, only
the FreeBSD one for some reason. IE, if I do a nslookup from the Win2k
machine, it behaves as expected, though I suppose the Win2k machine could
just not be falling back to whatever.lucida.ca... all and all, it's very
strange. I'll check with UUnet again though. Thanks.
