Hi, I'm trying to get an install going on an old machine I have here using my Debian Linux box, NFS exporting the CD (2.1.5). The boxes are hardwired SLIP. I get to the point of the FreeBSD sysinstall menu and it refuses to recognize the SLIP link between the two boxes, so everything dies right there. I keep getting the message box that says "sl0" is not configured. However, it is, and the VTY4 tells me it is if I do an ifconfig sl0. Plus, I can ping the box running sysinstall from the other end, so the link is up and running. But, the FreeBSD install refuses to recognize the link. I've run thru it a bazillion times trying various different things, and it just refuses to work. What am I missing here? The box on which I'd like to install FreeBSD has been running a version of Linux for a long time (MiniLinux), and SLIP connected to the Debian Linux box all the time. Oh, I did have to use the console (VTY4) to get the sl0 config set and running (proven by the ping test). Even though all the info is in the Net Config screen, it does fail to config the link, and to get it right I have to use the VTY. That suggests to me that I'm doing something wrong there but I don't know what. Checking the ifconfig sl0 after using just the menu stuff, it shows the device info but not the IP addresses I entered in the screen boxes. I've also tried doing the slattach from the console, but the sysinstall won't let you skip the slattach screen, as if you just attempt to cancel it, it ends the operation immediately, and goes back to the menus. Any help out there? Thanks Paul
