Your current directory isn't in your PATH.

Type  './a.out' to run things in the current directory.

This isn't included as a security precaution.  You can edit ~/.cshrc or
whatever to add . to the path line if that really bugs you.  If you do,
put it at the end; this reduces the chances of you running something in
your current directory that you weren't intending.
