What sort of mouse do you have? I have a Logitech trackball connected
to my PS/2 mouse port, and use the following in my XF86Config:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Mouse0"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "Protocol" "auto"
        Option "Device" "/dev/psm0"
        Option "Buttons" "5"
        Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

If your mouse is a PS/2 mouse, try using /dev/psm0 and auto protocol.
