it's the section, i think this is the general form:
1 - Commands
2 - System services and error numbers
3 - User-level library functions
4 - Device drivers, protocols, and network interfaces
5 - File formats used or read by various programs
6 - Games and demos
7 - Miscellaneous useful information pages
8 - System maintenance and operation commands


you call them with 'man 2 symlink' and 'man 7 symlink'
