% obiwan:openssh$ grep -rl SIGABRT . | wc -l
%       0

This should come from one of the underlying librairies sshd(8) is
linked to.

Do you run by chance 6-STABLE with ProPolice/SSP patch ?  If a
stack-based buffer overflow is detected, SIGABRT (signal 6) will
be sent to the faulty process.
