Basically I need to know why the:

Adaptec 3940UW - works
&
Adaptec 3940AUW - Does NOT work.

The 3940UW Dual channel controller works fine. It is detected by FreeBSD =
and runs happy, but something Adaptec have done with the 3940AUW means =
that it is not detected and if you try and fool it by installing first =
using the 3940UW then change to the 3940AUW it begins to boot but can =
not mount the root file system, and PANICS.

Does anyone know what the solution is?

I have BSD 2.2.5.

( I have a great deal of upgraded bits - so I have not got any of the =
vulnerabilities of 2.2.5 :| )

Greg
