I get the impression that fripperies like X & sound aren't of much
interest to FreeBSD
developers. This doesn't concern me particularly because the X setup
is inclined to
be icky at best & very few config items have GUIs / soundanyway.

I've been considering writing a couple of step_by_step HOWTOs on
configuring X
& configuring sound .... from looking through Greg Lehey's "Complete
FreeBSD"
however it looks like more trouble than its worth. Might be best to
leave FreeBSD to
do what it does best & run Solaris when you want a proper unix GUI
(its sound support
is still fair to lousy though)
