Hello

I have an ASUS P2L97-DS MB. It has on-board SCSI, and I have a 2 gig SCSI
drive in. I have an AGP cheap-o graphics card, and I picked up two Netgear
10/100 Mbps NIC cards Model: FA311. I booted off the IDE CD-ROM drive
using FreeBSD 4.1-R. It installed just fine, I logged in and for a few
weeks everything was fine. The NIC cards were detected at install time as
sis (this from an older email that I saved):

Network interface status:
Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs Coll
sis0 1500 <Link#1> 00:a0:cc:75:1f:46 1351 0 775 0 0
sis0 1500 015gra088/29 015gra091 1351 0 775 0 0
sis0  1500  fe80:1::2a0 fe80:1::2a0:ccff:     1351     0      775     0 0
sis1* 1500 <Link#2> 00:a0:cc:75:3b:e6 0 0 0 0 0

I didn't set up the 2nd NIC at that time with an IP address, since I
wanted to read up on setting up a firewall for my network at home. Anyway,
I picked up a 30 gig IBM DTLA-307030 IDE drive for the box, and proceeded
to install it. I kept the SCSI drive around for /var and a swap drive,
just because. Now, after I installed of the same CD, using the same
hardware and adding nothing other than the HD, FreeBSD won't recognize the
NIC cards. I get:

pci0: <unknown card> (vendor=0x100b, dev=0x0020) at 9.0 irq 5
pci0: <unknown card> (vendor=0x100b, dev=0x0020) at 10.0 irq 10

I've tried booting off the CD, booting with kernel.GENERIC, but I get the
same thing. I'll paste a dmesg.boot in verbose mode to the end of this
email.

I'm not sure why it all of a sudden doesn't notice the cards; I don't see
them officially supported in the handbook, but I've never had an issue
with Netgear cards in the past and it was working before. I've tried
resetting the BIOS by going in and reseting to defaults and then saving,
and also upgraded to the latest BIOS revision (thinking maybe adding the
IDE drive would screw up the IRQs or DMA or something). I've also taken
the IDE drive out, taken the NIC cards out, let the auto DMI on the
motherboard update, put the NICs in different slots, tried a PCI video
card instead of an AGP, and booted with no hard drives off the cd.

The chips on the NIC card say:

on card:
Netgear
FA311 REV-A1

on big chip in middle:
VS941AGC4
DP83815CVNG

on smaller chip towards RJ-45 jack:
DELTA
LF8221M0006

I also just now installed Win2000 Pro on the last half of the IDE drive (I
only partitioned 15 gigs for fbsd) and it recognized the NIC cards and I
was able to get out on the Net, though I had to use the disk included with
the NIC cards to get the right drivers. The disk does have Linux drivers,
but when I try to make install them I get a bunch of errors about Linux
directories not being there.

Any ideas? I'm stumped for right now, still searching through the mailing
lists ;-) Here is the dmesg, sorry if it makes this email huge but I
didn't know if attachments were OK on this list. This is booting with
kernel.GENERIC:
