Isn't this supposed to happen by default?  The GNOME people tout this
feature up and down.  The downside of changing the install path is that
we will have to do it in all of the subsequent ports.  This could turn
into the giconv thing, no?  Of course, the upside is that we will
guarantee GNOME1/GNOME2 install and runtime compatibility.
