Easy enough to do - it just means you rm'd the current working directory:

    {setantae@rhadamanth}-{~} $ mkdir -p /tmp/wibble
    {setantae@rhadamanth}-{~} $ cd /tmp/wibble/
    {setantae@rhadamanth}-{/tmp/wibble} $ rm -fr /tmp/wibble/
    {setantae@rhadamanth}-{/tmp/wibble} $ pwd
    pwd: .: No such file or directory
