That might kill some of your dependencies, but you should be able to 
fix that with pkgdb, although I don't think it will fix your problem.

The fix I made to the Makefile was to tell it not to remove 
config.cache because it doesn't exist

touching config.cache to make it exist is an alternative, but you 
seemed to have problems with it.
