My Creative Labs USB Webcam (older Model, Webcam Plus or something it was called) runs ok with /usr/ports/graphics/vid, which supports Webcams with the OV511 and OV511+ chipsets. I don't know for sure if the newer webcams still have this chipset, but I guess they do.

Oh, you'll need to code some glue to make vid be useful; all it does is grab an image and write it to stdout, no configurables.
