Just to get you started, here's a condensed checklist.

  1) Install FreeBSD
  2) Recompile the kernel with IPFIREWALL support
  3) Set up firewall rules with "ipfw" and use "natd" for gateway support

You'll have to do a bit of reading for a thorough set of instructions.
Start with http://www.freebsd.org/handbook and the cheat seats
at http://www.mostgraveconcern.com/freebsd/
