Subject:   tar - need to excluding directories

I need to tarball everything from the root but I need to exclude my
/home/backup directory. I looked through the man pages and found;

-X file
--exclude-from file     Exclude files listed in file.

Does anyone know if this will exclude that directory and all of its
subdirectories?
