I believe you can set a hint variable from the loader prompt.  The
defaults are:

hint.ed.0.at=3D"isa"
hint.ed.0.disabled=3D"1"
hint.ed.0.port=3D"0x280"
hint.ed.0.irq=3D"10"
hint.ed.0.maddr=3D"0xd8000"
