Check the ASUS part number.

I recently installed Linux on the ASUS P2-L97 AGP board
and it installed fine, runs fine.  I didn't install FBSD, 
but the 2.2.6 boot floppy worked fine,  I mounted the 
file system from CD-ROM#2 and ran several exercizes; all
of the major components are seen.  I could do "du /", 
"find / -print", and all was OK.  "fdisk wd0" found the
drive and reported the Linux filesystems.

I would say that it's off to a great start.
