Right -- it should be the unsigned (underflowed) equivalent, which of course is
not division by zero.

I don't think you should be able to get there with dirty > dirty_max_internal,
but obviously (assuming what's on the stack is correct) you did.  I stuck a
DTRACE in there on the copy I'm running (which isn't in the copy I posted and
sent to you) and am torture-testing to try to reproduce this, so far without
success (or with the DTRACE firing.)
