Hi,
I've just built 4.0 on a brand new box

FreeBSD mymachine.mydomain.co.uk 4.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE #0: Mon
Mar 20 22:50:22 GMT 2000
root@monster.cdrom.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386

I'm getting a lot of errors such as

Jul 22 20:24:02 secure /kernel: pid 230 (XF86Setup), uid 0: exited on
signal 11 (core dumped)
Jul 22 20:43:58 mymachine /kernel: pid 9778 (openssl), uid 0: exited on
signal 11 (core dumped)

Not just those 2 programs, it happened a lot while I was building ports
too.

I looked over the archives which indicated that it could be a memory
problem.
I took the box back to the computer shop, and got the RAM & processor
changed.

After that the problem appeared to occur less often, but that could just
be coincidence.

Oh, one other thing, just to muddy the waters.
With original memory & chip, I couldn't build 4.0 , it hung on 'probing
devices'
and the higher frequency of errors occured when I installed 3.4
With the new memory & chip 4.0 built OK.

Seen this before ?

Any ideas ?

The motherboard uses shared memory for video, could that make a
difference ?

I'd be grateful for any advice or comments.

Dave
