You need to be later than 4.something though... Never worked for me (Acer 40x CD-ROM, not sure about the exact model number) from the day one when 4.1RC1 was installed on this box. I'm at Jan 4 -stable now. ad0: 19574MB <IBM-DPTA-372050> [39770/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA33 ad2: 14649MB <IBM-DTLA-307015> [29765/16/63] at ata1-master UDMA33 acd0: CDROM <ATAPI CD ROM DRIVE 40X MAX> at ata1-slave using PIO4 cdcontrol eject works just fine, cdcontrol close just does nothing (no error messages).
