Actually I have yet to see a v.34(+) modem that wouldn't train back up.
USR Sportsters, Supras, Cardinals.. under $70 28.8/33.6 no-name modems..
I have witnessed all of these train down and then back up when line
conditions improved again a minute later.. no special settings; just
the correct Windows95 "driver" (some even using "standard modem")

You may want to check your modem manual and look for the settings that
pertain to retraining.
