Wine Is Not an Emulator (W-I-N-E). ;-)

Since Wine isn't emulating you'll get the same performance as with windows on 
the same machine.

mIRC runs just fine on this machine.

Sounds like you intend on playing games. On that part I haven't yet 
succeeded. Either installation fails, or starting.... or wine succeeds in 
crashing BSD totally and reboot. Don't know whether this is due to wine or X 
(4.0.3).

And I'm not sure DirectX is fully supported yet.
