As for the difference between FreeBSD and Linux, the shortest way I know how to say it is that I believe FreeBSD is more mature, knows where Unix has been and where Unix is going. Most all of The Big Mistakes have already been tried in *BSD and corrected. Many of which Linux has had to rediscover for itself. The majority of Linux users are also Windows users and wear Microsoft-colored glasses no matter how much they badmouth Microsoft. They continue to build their new land with a Microsoft tint.
