I have made a new patch for this that I'd like you to try before I get it reviewed and commit the fix. It's the spinup_wait.patch file. There is is new sysctl variable that you can use to set the spinup wait time (default is 3 seconds), and you should be able to see the wait message if you set the XINFO bit in the debug level (assuming a wait is required).
