If you plan on installing and using Open Office, you 
might want to consider  /usr/ports/java/linux-jdk13
instead.  Open Office does not yet work with the native
FreeBSD JDK.

make /usr/ports/java/linux-jdk1 

gives instructions on how to download the JDK from Sun.

Works for me- I installed it (and Open Office) just today.
