Hello;

(First off, i'm hoping i have this put down where it makes sense)

I've been having a problem with starting X from the command line with
"startx" without my firewall being up. How I start the firewall is with
" ipf -Fa -f /etc/ipf.rules" This is a fresh install of FreeBSD-4.2
with a fresh install of XFree86-4.1 and KDE2 from the ports. I've not
ever had this problem before so I'm hoping someone here can help me out
with it.
uname:
FreeBSD thecafe.ca 4.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.2-RELEASE #0: Wed Jun 20
19:25:29 EDT 2001 root@thecafe.ca:/usr/src/sys/compile/FREEBSD i386

also in my .xserverrc i have -nolisten tcp, now after starting my
firewall rules X start's up no problem. Not knowing what was happening
i decided to do a tcpdump on my ed0 to see if i might see why this is
happening. By the way i use pppoe for my net connection.

I used this for tcpdump:
tcpdump -s 1518 -i ed0 -w tcpdump, following this article from Dru
Lavigne:
http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/bsd/2001/03/21/FreeBSD_Basics.html

Now with the dump ( below) i believe i have found why X will not start,
but I am unable to figure out exactly what is going on with what is in
the dump, so this i am hoping someone can help out with.

The part I'm concerned about is the parking.webservers.com, i have no
idea who they are, and talking with my ISP, they also do not know
anything about them, but my main concern is why, or what is actually
happening here that would prevent X from starting. NOTE: I do not get
anything above when I start ppp or my firewall while in console mode,
it only comes up when i startx itself.

Also, I have been getting lockup's with X KDE and netscape while
surfing since yesturday and when doing a dump on the console this
perticular host name is all through the dump itself. ( not really sure
iof that pertains to this or not)

Can someone possibly figure out what is actually happening here? If
there is something else that is required from my end I'm more than
willing to give it a shot.

Thanks

David
