I haven't had it freeze at 8bit yet.
I'm going to try to reproduce your screen saver freeze.
I did find this:

I sent mail asking about the status and asking if they could need some info from me, as 
they're producing the problem on linux. Maybe Some OS depend options can be 
excluded.
And yes, a power-cycle is the only thing that can be done for me to.
Not good no.
