Hmm.. worked for me quite easily, I just added the following lines to the work/
xc/config/xc/FreeBSD.cf file.
#define HasPosixThreads         YES
#define ThreadedX               YES
#define HasThreadSafeAPI        YES
#define ThreadsLibraries        -pthread
