Hi,

Had a strange issue today where our NFS server completly locked up.... no
keyboard response, "daemon" saver froze
on the console, even the power button didnt work to turn it off (had to pull
the plug).

Im suspecting a hardware problem somewhere.... we are running on a Pentium 4
1.3Ghz with 512MB RAM, with 1x 30GB IDE
disk and 3x 120GB.

The server was running NFSD, and the 3x 120GB drives are striped (RAID0)
with vinum (vinum config below)

No clues in the logs apart from these that appear every other day:

Sep 11 16:34:42 lennon /kernel: done
Sep 11 18:29:53 lennon /kernel: ad5: WRITE command timeout tag=0 serv=0 -
resetting
Sep 11 18:29:53 lennon /kernel: ata2: resetting devices .. ad4: DMA limited
to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device
Sep 11 18:29:53 lennon /kernel: done
Sep 12 01:17:58 lennon /kernel: ad5: WRITE command timeout tag=0 serv=0 -
resetting
Sep 12 01:17:58 lennon /kernel: ata2: resetting devices .. ad4: DMA limited
to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device
Sep 12 01:17:58 lennon /kernel: done

(The drives are ATA100 with a compatible controller - they are WDC
WD1200JB-00CRA1)

The server froze at approx. 12:10pm today.

Running FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE #4: Fri Aug 2 13:58:16 BST 2002.

dmesg output also attached.

Thanks in advance for any clues :-)
