You may be suffering from a general sound problem in FBSD 4.7R instead
of a JAVA problem.

Take a look at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=kern/35004 ,
the patches in that PR fixed the problem for me.  I never tried JAVA
with sound, though, I just experienced the general problem with native
code sound applications.
