FreeBSD supports filters on remote printers (I added support about a 
year and a half ago), but most lpr implementations dont.

I think the original posters problem was that he was missing his rp= 
entry.  JetDirect cards have two logical printers, ``raw'' and 
``text''.  The text one will automatically do the CR/LF translations.
